A 90-year-old Southold man was killed Wednesday after the car he was in left the roadway and crashed into trees in the road's meridian, Southampton police said.

The driver of the 2011 Chrysler, Theresa Sweeney, 68, of Southold, was going eastbound on County Route 94 when the car left the roadway. She was taken to Peconic Bay Medical Center for her serious injuries.

The driver of the 2011 Chrysler, Theresa Sweeney, 68, of Southold, was going eastbound on County Route 94 when the car left the roadway. She was taken to Peconic Bay Medical Center for her serious injuries.

The passenger, John R. Cushen, died from his injuries, police said.

The crash, which occurred east of Pinehurst Boulevard on the border of Calverton and Northampton, was reported in a 911 call at 9:02 a.m., Southampton Lt. Susan Ralph said.

Police said County Route 94 had reopened.
