Several animals died during a Selden house fire on Washington Heights Avenue Wednesday afternoon, fire officials said.

Selden firefighters responded to the scene about 3:45 p.m., authorities said.

Many dogs and cats died in the blaze, but the exact number wasn't immediately clear.

One person who was inside the residence at the time of the fire was also unharmed. The cause of the fire is being investigated, fire officials said.
