A Laurel teenager was arrested Tuesday and charged with using markers and spray paint to place graffiti on a number of buildings and traffic signs in Southold Town, police said.

Ryan Velek, 18, was charged with three counts of making graffiti and one count of third degree criminal trespass.

Southold police said Valek was responsible for at least part of a rash of graffiti incidents that has plagued the town since the end of 2011 and early 2012.

Valek "tagged" the bath house at the Cutchogue/New Suffolk Park District Beach on the Nassau Point Causeway, trailers near the intersection of Route 48 and Cox Well in Cutchogue, and a barn at Corey Creek Vineyard, police said.

He was released on bail pending his arraignment in Southold Justice Court in April, police said.
