Man, 30, killed on tracks by LIRR train
A 30-year-old man was struck and killed Saturday morning by a westbound Long Island Rail Road train, a LIRR spokeswoman said.
The man, whose identity has not been released, was apparently trespassing, sitting along the tracks with a 23-year-old companion and drinking alcohol, said Marjorie Anders of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority.

The man was hit shortly after 2 a.m. about 300 feet west of the Fifth Avenue crossing in Brentwood by a westbound Ronkonkoma train.
Police said the man's companion called 911 and Suffolk County police notified MTA Police.
Two trains were halted, one westbound and one eastbound.
Third rail power was turned off during the investigation, and buses were ordered for the passengers on the two trains held.
The 1:16 a.m. from Penn Station, due Ronkonkoma at 2:38 a.m., was held at Farmingdale and the 2:10 a.m. from Ronkonkoma, due Penn at 3:27 a.m., was held at Ronkonkoma.
Buses were ordered to shuttle those passengers delayed by the investigation between Farmingdale -- while making local stops -- and Ronkonkoma, where they were able to resume train service.
Regular train service was resumed by about 4 a.m.
The name of the victim was being held pending notification of his family.
