Police have arrested an 18-year-old man on charges of shooting a woman in the chest outside her Deer Park apartment last Thursday.

Lameek Everette of Suburban Avenue, Deer Park, was arrested Monday night and charged with second-degree assault, Suffolk County police said. He will be arraigned Tuesday in First District Court in Central Islip. Police are searching for a second suspect.

The victim, Cedra Gordon, 21, was treated at Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip, police said.

The incident occurred Thursday at 11:40 p.m. after police said Gordon and her boyfriend, Devon Lewis, 26, returned to her apartment on Washington Avenue and noticed two men inside.

Police said Gordon returned to the car to tell Lewis about the men and said that when Lewis got out of the vehicle, he was confronted by the men, one of who "started shooting" at him and Gordon. Police said one shot struck Gordon.

The suspects fled and police said Lewis drove Gordon to the Deer Park Fire Department, where an ambulance from Deer Park Rescue took her to Good Samaritan.
