The single-engine Piper PA-28 landed on the beach in Atlantique Beach on Fire Island, just west of Ocean Beach, at about 12:15 p.m. Monday, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.
The pilot and another person on board the plane were not injured, Suffolk County police said.
Suffolk police, Ocean Beach police and fire and the FAA responded to investigate.
The pilot reported a hard landing after experiencing engine trouble, Ocean Beach Fire Chief George Hesse said.
“They landed right where they could land,” Hesse said. “It was a light beach day.”
The two people on the plane were able to walk away after waiting for the plane to be towed off the beach, Hesse said.
