A school van hit a pedestrian Tuesday afternoon in Islip, sending him to the hospital with serious injuries, Suffolk police said.

Michael Haug, 64, of Bay Shore, was walking east on Main Street and crossing Ocean Avenue about 4:30 p.m. when a westbound Suffolk Transportation bus hit him as it turned left onto Ocean, police said.

A school van hit a pedestrian Tuesday afternoon in Islip, sending him to the hospital with serious injuries, Suffolk police said.

Michael Haug, 64, of Bay Shore, was walking east on Main Street and crossing Ocean Avenue about 4:30 p.m. when a westbound Suffolk Transportation bus hit him as it turned left onto Ocean, police said.

Haug was taken to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore, police said.

The school bus driver, Richard Cousin, 41, of Bay Shore, and his two passengers were not injured, police said.

A safety check on the vehicle was conducted at the scene and the investigation is continuing, police said.

Third Precinct detectives said anyone with information could call them at 631-854-8352.
