Suffolk legislators Jay Schneiderman (I- Montauk) and Edward Romaine (R-Center Moriches) don't normally take the bus to work.

But they plan to be at the bus shelter in front of the county center in Riverhead Friday to announce a plan to bring Sunday bus service to the East End.

They have tried to do it before, as part of a plan that would have provided Sunday service to a dozen of the county's busiest routes. That bill was vetoed in January by Suffolk County Executive Steve Levy, who said the 50-cent rate hike they called for would not cover even half the new service.

The two legislators are now proposing to offer Sunday service only on the East End, starting in July, and to pay for it with a 50-cent increase to the current $1.50 fare on only the lines which serve East End towns.
