WHAT Three shows, one venue: b.j. spoke gallery presents "From the Ashes," a collection of raku ceramic creations honoring 9/11 victims; "Geometric Constructions and Abstractions," a group exhibit of recent works by members of the Huntington gallery, plus a display of members' art to be sold by silent auction. "From the Ashes" is the result of a pottery collaboration featuring artisans Grace Barrett, Gina Mars, Jill Trovillion and members of the Art League of Long Island and Suffolk County Art Leaders Association. Artists represented in all three shows will be on hand to talk about their work at a reception Sunday.

A Tony Bennett tribute

 

WHAT "Tony Bennett in Words and Music" tells the life story of an American great through song, anecdote and a round table featuring the author of a new Anthony Benedetto biography. Hofstra Entertainment, led by director-performer Bob Spiotto, and the Rags to Riches Quartet covers the musical landscape with the help of singers Eric Comstock, Lynn DiMenna, Sarah Partridge, David Guidice and Sean Sullivan. A panel headed by David Evanier, author of "All the Things You Are: The Life of Tony Bennett" (among other things, Tony's also a painter), will explore his musical career. Will Friedwald, author of "Sinatra: The Song Is You," radio broadcaster Anthony DiFlorio, concert promoter Len Triola and Patsy's restaurateur Sal Scognamillo join the round table in this Italian Culture and Heritage Month event. A book sale and signing follows.
