The Town of North Hempstead took steps to repair its public works department building, by authorizing the bonding of $185,000 at a special town board meeting Tuesday night.

At the height of superstorm Sandy, part of the second-floor metal roof blew off. The building, on Denton Avenue in New Hyde Park, is department headquarters and home to 100 employees.

The Town of North Hempstead took steps to repair its public works department building, by authorizing the bonding of $185,000 at a special town board meeting Tuesday night.

At the height of superstorm Sandy, part of the second-floor metal roof blew off. The building, on Denton Avenue in New Hyde Park, is department headquarters and home to 100 employees.

Deputy town supervisor Chris Senior characterized the financing as precautionary and said he expects the bill to be “almost completely paid for by FEMA.”

“It makes sense to have to get the financing from FEMA before we have to bond, that way if we don’t, it will allow us not to spend cash,” he said.
