Ceremony to mark anniversary of Sandy in Long Beach

Long Beach will hold a ceremony in Kennedy Plaza on Oct. 26 to commemorate the anniversary of superstorm Sandy, which heavily damaged the city.
The ceremony will include a 15-minute video by local filmmakers, and focus on the city’s recovery from the storm and the work left to be done, city officials said.

Long Beach will hold a ceremony in Kennedy Plaza on Oct. 26 to commemorate the anniversary of superstorm Sandy, which heavily damaged the city.
The ceremony will include a 15-minute video by local filmmakers, and focus on the city’s recovery from the storm and the work left to be done, city officials said.
The event is scheduled for 11 a.m. to noon.
City officials will also hand out electric candles to all attendees, officials said. Residents will be asked to place the candles in their windows on Oct. 29 — the anniversary of the storm — to “light the way home” for residents who remain displaced by the storm, officials said in a statement.
Sandy caused an estimated $200 million in damage to Long Beach, officials have said.
Kennedy Plaza is in front of city hall at 1 W. Chester St.
