An animal rescue organization has found a new home in Westbury.
Kitty Korner, located in the back of Pet Supplies Plus on Old Country Road, was opened by Forgotten Friends of Long Island in July.
The organization’s president, Loretta Rinaldo, said its mission is to help animals -- specifically cats -- that are sick, hurt or elderly, to find a safe home.
Rinaldo said she checks out every adoptive family to ensure she is not moving her rescues into a bad situation. No cats or kittens from Kitty Korner are placed until Rinaldo has contacted references and has been to the prospective home to look around.
“We want to know what you have at home right now,” Renaldo explained. “Do you have small children? Do you have cats and kittens? Are they friendly?”
Twelve cats have been adopted from the new location since it opened, according to Rinaldo.
“It’s not enough,” she said. She has room for 16 cats and has to pay rent for the space. Adoptions generate revenue for Forgotten Friends. Rinaldo charges $100 per kitten adoption and $75 for cats to raise money for veterinarian bills and rent.
“We have to adopt to be able to rescue again,” she said.
