Babylon Town will spend up to $250,000 to repair Venetian Shores Park before the summer.

Town board members voted unanimously Tuesday to approve a bond issue to cover repairs to the deck of the spray park, which town spokesman Tim Ruggeri wrote in an email “has deteriorated to the point where it needs to be replaced.”

The needed repairs are “in line with regular use,” he added. Repairs are complicated because the deck sits atop a water tank, and resurfacing must be accompanied by reinforcement of the underlying structure.

The Lindenhurst park, which officials say attracts hundreds of people on some summer days, opened in 2006. Besides the spray park, it features a playground, beach and picnic area.

The bonding will cover the cost of materials, engineering and installation for spray park repairs.
