Nightlife prompts Patchogue Village to restrict parking on avenue

The Patchogue Village board has taken steps to reduce the parking problems, public urination or customers loudly leaving popular nightclubs that are in the area.
Trustees unanimously voted 7-0 Monday night to amend village code 415 to restrict parking on the east side of Railroad Avenue, from Church to Gerard streets, to vehicles with permits.

Trustees unanimously voted 7-0 Monday night to amend village code 415 to restrict parking on the east side of Railroad Avenue, from Church to Gerard streets, to vehicles with permits.
Patrons of popular establishments such as The Emporium nightclub, who also park near homes on Railroad Avenue, often leave late at night, make a lot of noise and urinate publicly, village Deputy Mayor Jack Krieger said after the meeting.
“The residents who are living there now are saying ‘wait a minute, these people are making a lot of noise,’ so we created permit parking,” he said.
Residents living on Railroad Avenue will be able to use temporary parking permits for their guests.
“There’s a lot of people where the residential neighborhood meets the Patchogue nightlife,” said trustee Lori Devlin. “These residents deserve peace and quiet.”
