A Shed the Meds pharmaceutical disposal event will be Thursday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., during a health and wellness fair at Walt Whitman High School in Huntington Station.
Residents are asked to bring expired or unused medication to the event for safe disposal.

A Shed the Meds pharmaceutical disposal event will be Thursday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., during a health and wellness fair at Walt Whitman High School in Huntington Station.
Residents are asked to bring expired or unused medication to the event for safe disposal.
Residents will be able to drop off over-the-counter and prescription medications, including antibiotics and controlled substances, into a lockbox, no questions asked. The medications will then be disposed of in an environmentally safe way.
According to organizers, medicine has been detected in drinking water supplies in a number of municipalities around the country and this is a proactive step to prevent Suffolk County from facing the same problem. It will also reduce the potential for children and young adults to gain access to these medications, organizers said.
The event is being conducted in a partnership with Legis. Steve Stern (D-Huntington) and the South Huntington School District.
The high school is located at 301 West Hills Rd.
