Daily highs across Nassau and Suffolk counties could touch 80, the service’s Upton office said, with south winds at about 6 mph.

News 12 Long Island meteorologist Matt Hammer said Tuesday’s high temperature at Long Island MacArthur Airport likely will fall short of the daily record high of 82 degrees in 2000.
There will be a gradual clearing after a stretch of cloudy conditions and a daily record rainfall Monday at the Ronkonkoma airport.
The service said 1.29 inches of rain fell Monday, surpassing the previous mark of 0.98 inches in 2000.
Overall, Long Island remains more than 8 inches shy of its average rainfall total for this time of year, the service said.
Hammer said Tuesday will offer “some breaks of sunshine developing. The humidity will lower overnight, and Wednesday will be a gorgeous day for the last official day of summer.”
Daily highs Wednesday will be in the low 80s, he said, which could challenge the daily record high of 82 degrees — again — set in 1989.
