Long Island weather: Sunshine through Friday, warmer temps linger 

Sunshine and delightful warm temperatures hovering near 70 will mark Long Island's weather for the rest of the workweek, the National Weather Service said, and it won't get chilly any time soon.

“The main theme for the long-term period will be dry conditions with above-normal temperatures," the weather service said, also predicting possible record warmth next week.

Thursday’s daytime high will reach be a slightly cooler 66 — down from Wednesday's high of 68 — but then temperatures should rise and could reach at least 70 by Friday, and could climb even higher through the weekend and into next week.

"The trend of above normal temperatures will continue into the late week, and especially into next weekend when temperatures will likely be a good 10 to 15 degrees above normal with record warmth on the table," the weather service said in its forecast.

Nighttime temperatures will retreat no further than the mid-50s, unlike last week when frost threatened.

Drivers should be aware that patchy fog may arise Thursday night and Friday night, possibly lingering until morning, and while the weekend will be dry, clouds will arrive Saturday and Sunday.

But the sun returns Monday and stays around for the early part of the week with no chance of rain seen in the weather service forecast yet.
