Murphy out 4-6 months with MCL tear

The Mets announced today that Daniel Murphy will be out 4-6 months after an MRI revealed a "high-grade" MCL tear of his right knee.
Murphy, making his second start at second base for Triple-A Buffalo, was injured Wednesday night turning a double play when the baserunner rolled into him. He had to be helped off the field and was examined today at the Hospital for Special Surgery in Manhattan.

Murphy was supposed to be the Mets' Opening Day first baseman, but had to be placed on the DL with a Grade I sprain of his right knee less than a week before the season opener. The Mets wanted to have him work out at a number of positions for the Bisons in the hope that he could be called up as a utility player, but that experiment ended badly Wednesday night.
