Jones fell out of favor in Philly with the emergence of Chris Polk behind starter LeSean McCoy. The Eagles' other tailback is second-year man Bryce Brown.
The Steelers need depth at running back after the loss of Le'Veon Bell, who is out 4-6 weeks with a sprained right foot.
Jones was the 22nd pick in the 2008 draft, but eventually lost his starting job in Dallas to DeMarco Murray. Jones was a former college backfield mate of Darren McFadden, a first-round pick with Oakland in 2008.
