           So far, through 27 holes of a 36-hole sectional at Summit, N.J., the Long Island native is 2 under par and is in third place. The top four go to Pebble Beach next week.

           The other Long Islanders aren't as close. Jimmy Hazen of Miller Place is  1 over, tied for ninth, two shots out of the final spot at the turn of his second round
