As discussed yesterday, the Rangers today formally called up Sean Avery from the AHL, and he has 24 hours to clear re-entry waivers.

If no NHL team claims him by noon, he will report to the Rangers, and presumably practice on Wednesday. The Rangers are not scheduled---at this point---to skate Tuesday. He would be eligible to play on Thursday against the Ducks at MSG, where a segment of the crowd has been lobbying for his return during the first two home games.

Avery, whose reputation is built on agitation, was demoted Oct. 4, rehabbed a shoulder injury, and played two games for the Connecticut  Whale. He scored an empty net goal and a shootout goal.
