Newsday’s Boys Bowler of the Year: Anthony Manetta, Comsewogue, Sr.
Manetta increased his average by 10 pins from last season, with his 232.71 ranking first on Long Island. He was one of 10 bowlers to roll a 300 in Suffolk, and his high series of 807 was fifth best in the county.
Manetta continued his strong season as a member of the Suffolk All-Star team, leading them to a first-place finish at the state championship. His 279 in Game 3 was the highest game of the event and his 1,408 series was third best.
Andrew Ceraulo, Seaford, Soph.
Ceraulo’s 215.36 average was second best in Nassau as he helped Seaford capture its seventh straight county title. He also rolled a 1,426 six-game series to win the Nassau individual tournament.
Joseph Dolezal, Wheatley, Sr.
Dolezal finished the season with a 229.7 average, the best mark in Nassau and the third best on Long Island. He placed fourth in the Nassau individual championship.
Andrew Jacobsen, East Islip, Jr.
Jacobsen’s 225.25 average was the fifth best in Suffolk. He had a high series of 775 and helped East Islip go undefeated in League III.
Jayden Lobasso, Bay Shore, Sr.
Lobasso had the seventh-best average (224.547) in Suffolk. He had a high series of 781 and a high game of 289.
Brenden Muller, East Islip, Soph.
Muller’s 225.227 average was the sixth highest in Suffolk. His high series of 783 was the 10th best in the county.
Vinny Petrillo, Deer Park, Sr.
Petrillo rolled a perfect game and had a high series of 752. His 227.437 average was the fourth best in Suffolk.
Matthew Sundberg, East Islip, Soph.
Sundberg’s 230.229 average was the second best on Long Island. He had a high series of 785 and a high game of 289.
Daniel Tufano, Chaminade, Sr.
Tufano’s 221 average was the best in the CHSAA. He finished second at the CHSAA individual state championship.
Corey Volper, Longwood, Sr.
Volper’s 228.095 average was third best in Suffolk. He had a high series 809 and rolled two perfect games.
Coach of the Year: Jay Hegi, Sewanhaka
Hegi guided Sewanhaka to its second county championship in the past three seasons. The team earned a fourth-place finish at the Division I state championship, four spots higher than its previous appearance.
