Newsday Girls Bowler of the Year: Leighanna Tolan, Central Islip, Sr.
Tolan was the top girls bowler on Long Island a season ago, and she proved to be even better this season. She posted a 235.67 average, 11 pins higher than her junior season. That average was the highest on Long Island for girls and boys.
Tolan posted both the second-highest series (772) and game (299) for a girls bowler. She rolled a 483 over two games to capture the Suffolk Division A singles title, and led the Suffolk All-Star team to a second-place finish at the state championship with a 1,294 series.
Brooke Andresen, East Islip, Soph.
Andresen rolled two perfect games and helped East Islip finish undefeated in Suffolk League III. Her 212.25 average ranked sixth on Long Island.
Cira Arcangel, Sachem, Sr.
Arcangel’s 217.44 average ranked fourth on Long Island. She had a high game of 268 and a high series of 763.
Kailyn Bloch, East Islip, Sr.
Bloch raised her average by nearly 10 pins to 230.83, the second best on Long Island. Her high series of 794 ranked first on Long Island and her high game of 279 was tied for third.
Dakota Collins, East Islip, Jr.
Collins' 218.83 average was third best on Long Island. She had a high series of 764 and a high game of 276.
Trishna Desai, Smithtown, Fr.
Desai rolled a 267 at the state championship as a member of the Suffolk All-Star team, tying for the second highest game of the event. Her 204.83 average was a 10-pin improvement from the previous season.
Kaylee Dwyer, Longwood, Fr.
Dwyer’s high series of 750 was fifth best in Suffolk and her high game of 269 ranked seventh. Her 210.09 average ranked sixth in Suffolk.
Ilana Kaplan, Commack, Sr.
Kaplan rolled a 267 high game at the state championship, tying her for the second highest game at the event. Her 204.97 average was the seventh highest in the county and her 746 series was sixth.
Amanda Morris, East Meadow, Jr.
Morris’ 216.3 average was the highest in Nassau and fifth best on Long Island. Her high series of 732 was the best in the county.
Michaela Palumbo, Mineola, Sr.
Palumbo rolled a 298 for Mineola in Game 6 of the state championship. She had Nassau’s top high game with a 279 in the regular season. Her 199.9 average led Mineola to a third straight Nassau Division I title.
Coach of the Year: Robert Sconone, East Islip
Sconone guided East Islip to a 12-0 regular season and a Suffolk League III title. The team capped off the season with a second-place finish at the Division I state championship. East Islip featured three of the top five individual averages in the county.
