Elvis musical 'Heartbreak Hotel,' 'Waitress' part of Engeman's new season
Elvis will be in the building known as the John W. Engeman Theater next season, along with Willy Wonka, Nellie Forbush and other iconic figures of musical theater.
On Monday, the Northport venue announced its 2024-25 season of five productions, which will kick off with its holiday offering, the family-friendly "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory," from Nov. 14 to Dec. 29. Based on Roald Dahl's classic story, the show follows Charlie Bucket and four other lucky Golden Ticket winners who take a tour of the eccentric Wonka's unusual chocolate factory.
The King of Rock lives on in "Heartbreak Hotel: The Elvis Presley Story," which follows from Jan. 16 to March 2. The jukebox musical features more than 40 of the music legend's hits, including "Blue Suede Shoes," "Jailhouse Rock." "Hound Dog" and the title tune.
Up next will be "Waitress" (March 13-April 27, 2025), based on the 2007 movie about a talented pie maker trapped in an abusive marriage. The Tony Award-nominated musical features songs by Sara Bareilles.
The season continues with the Rodgers and Hammerstein warhorse "South Pacific" (May 15-June 29, 2025) which features such beloved numbers as "Some Enchanted Evening," "Bali Ha'i," "There Is Nothing Like a Dame" and Navy nurse Forbush's "I'm Gonna Wash That Man Right Outa My Hair."
Wrapping things up will be "Footloose," based on the 1984 movie starring Kevin Bacon about the conflict that arises when the local preacher bans dancing in his town. The show (July 10-Aug. 24, 2025) features a number of Top 10 hits, including the title song, "Holding Out for a Hero" and "Let's Hear It for the Boy."
