A serious pedestrian accident has forced the closure of a section of Route 109 in West Babylon early Tuesday, Suffolk County police said.

Police said the incident occurred at about 6:30 a.m., with a vehicle striking a pedestrian, but said details were still emerging.

While police did not characterize the seriousness of any injuries, they said Crime Scene unit detectives were on scene and said the road was closed until further notice between Arnold Avenue and Golding Avenue. Motorists are being advised to avoid the area.
