Nassau County police charged a teen with attempted murder following a midday pursuit that began as a traffic stop Wednesday in Port Washington and ended with an arrest at the Americana Manhasset after multiple collisions.

About 12:30 p.m., a Port Washington police officer attempted a traffic stop in the village after an investigation on North Bayles Avenue, Nassau police said. The juvenile driver fled, causing multiple collisions, before the pursuit came to a stop about 30 minutes later in the parking lot of the Manhasset shopping center.

No injuries were reported.

Police did not release any additional details of the pursuit. The juvenile, who was not identified, was charged with second-degree attempted murder, grand larceny, reckless endangerment and resisting arrest.

The teen was set to be arraigned Thursday in First District Court in Hempstead.

Northern Boulevard was closed until about 9 p.m. near the Americana Manhasset mall, between Searingtown Road and The Gate at Manhasset shopping center, police said.

Port Washington police said they were securing four different crime scenes.

Manhasset schools, including nearby Munsey Park Elementary School, suspended outdoor activities Wednesday "out of an abundance of caution," Superintendent Christopher Pellettieri said in a letter to parents.

"At no time were our students, staff, or schools in harm’s way," Pellettieri said.

A spokeswoman for Americana Manhasset said there was no threat to patrons and the outdoor mall remained open Thursday.
