Nassau, Suffolk and New York City police increasing patrols in aftermath of Israel's attacks on Iran

Long Island and New York City police forces say they're intensifying patrols in the aftermath of Israel's attack on Iran, although there's no known local threat.
The announcements of stepped-up policing are a typical response when events elsewhere could reverberate in retaliatory attacks locally.
Last night, Israel launched an attack on Iran’s military and nuclear infrastructure, and killed top scientists and generals, according to The Associated Press. An unknown number of civilians were killed as well. Iran has responded with missile strikes on Israel.
The Suffolk police press office said by email that the force would increase patrols and checks “at all Jewish and Muslim institutions,” although “there are currently no credible threats in our area.” The email said that the department is in touch with other law enforcement agencies and local religious leaders.
Det. Lt. Scott Skrynecki, a spokesman for the Nassau police, said the department’s “Homeland Security House of Worship Desk has been gathering the most current information on the threat climate both internationally and domestically.”
“While there is no known credible threat to our region at this time, we remain vigilant and will continue to sustain an enhanced presence at houses of worship throughout the weekend,” he said by email.
There is also no known threat in New York City, but policing is being intensified there, too.
“The NYPD is tracking the situation in the Middle East. Out of an abundance of caution, we're deploying additional resources to Jewish, Israeli and other sites throughout New York City,” an email from the department’s press office said.
