Julio Borges, of Bellport, drives into woods, killed in crash on LIE in Manorville

A driver was killed on Friday after he lost control of his caron the Long Island Expressway in Manorville and drove into the woods, according to the Suffolk County Police Department.
The driver, 32-year-old Julio Borges, of Bellport, had been going west in a 2007 Volkswagen near Exit 69 around 5:41 p.m. when he lost control and drove into the woods on the side of the expressway, the department wrote in a news release. He was declared dead at the scene by a physician assistant with the county medical examiner's office.
No other vehicle was involved.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, roughly 31% of crashes nationwide involve just one vehicle.
The Borges crash is being investigated by police detectives from the Shirley-based Seventh Squad.
The man was alone in the car, and a passing motorist called 911 upon seeing what happened, police said in an email. The cause of the crash is still being determined, the email said.
At least 42 people have been killed in traffic crashes on Long Island so far this year, according to Newsday's fatality tracker.
