Justin Timberlake pleads not guilty to DWI charge in Sag Harbor after arrest Tuesday
Entertainer Justin Timberlake has been charged with drunken driving after he was pulled over early Tuesday in Sag Harbor, authorities said.
Timberlake, the actor-singer-songwriter, pleaded not guilty to the charges in Sag Harbor Justice Court and was released without bail.
Timberlake, 43, of Franklin, Tennessee, was driving a gray 2025 BMW with Florida plates south on Madison Street at 12:17 a.m. Tuesday when he failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection with Jermain Avenue, according to Sag Harbor Village police. He also failed to keep right, police said.
His eyes were bloodshot and glassy, he had a strong odor of alcohol on his breath, exhibited slowed speech and was unsteady on his feet, police said. The report noted Timberlake “performed poorly on all standardized field sobriety tests.”
He told police, “I had one martini and I followed my friends home.”
Police said Timberlake had trouble speaking while looking for his vehicle registration. He also struggled to complete a “walk and turn” test, turning the wrong way and missing steps, they said.
Timberlake was placed under arrest at 12:37 a.m. Tuesday. Records also show Timberlake refused a Breathalyzer test at 12:55 a.m. “No, I’m not doing a chemical test,” he told police.
He was given a suicide prevention screening at 12:57 a.m., and then refused other tests again at 1:08 a.m. and 1:23 a.m. The officer noted that at each instance, Timberlake responded: “I refuse.”
Timberlake was given his Miranda rights at 1:26 a.m. and records state he also was given water — at 1:29 a.m. and 1:46 a.m.
Timberlake was then charged with DWI and given two tickets for failing to stop and failing to maintain his lane. He was taken to East Hampton Town police headquarters and held for Tuesday's arraignment in Sag Harbor Village Justice Court. His belongings were logged and included cash, a ring, watch, iPhone, hat, wallet, two forms of ID and a vape.
His next court date is scheduled for July 26, according to the Suffolk County District Attorney's Office.
There is body camera footage of the arrest, according to court documents.
Timberlake is being represented by attorney Ed Burke Jr., of Sag Harbor.
A spokesperson for Timberlake replied to an email but did not comment.
Timberlake's career was launched at age 11 when he appeared on TV's “Star Search” and as part of “The All New Mickey Mouse Club,” where co-stars included Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, Ryan Gosling and future bandmate J.C. Chasez. It was his role in the boy band *NSYNC that launched him to superstardom.
He is currently performing on “The Forget Tomorrow World Tour,” and is scheduled to perform Friday and Saturday at the United Center in Chicago and next Tuesday and Wednesday at Madison Square Garden.
The last time he performed on Long Island was at Nassau Coliseum in 2007 during the “FutureSex/LoveShow” tour and before that was with *NSYNC at Jones Beach Theater in 1999.
Timberlake's acting career includes roles in “The Social Network,” “Friends with Benefits” and “Trouble With the Curve.” He has been married to actress Jessica Biel since 2012; they have two children.
