Weekend showers are expected to clear up in the east on Sunday, with the sun peeking through the clouds going into Monday, according to forecasters.
The National Weather Service on Saturday was predicting a cloudy day on Sunday and temperatures reaching into the upper 60s.
More rain hit the island on Saturday morning, persisting throughout the day with on-and-off showers, government meteorologist Brian Ciemnecki said. Showers are more likely in western Long Island, according to his forecast and conditions will remain dreary in areas that aren’t hit by rainfall on Sunday.
"There’s still a chance of rain tomorrow, but maybe more for the western half of Long Island. It might be a little bit more dry for the eastern half," he said. "But either way, it’s really not a great day. It will be cloudy and probably damp."
Temperatures on Sunday may heat up a few degrees, but are likely to be under 70 for most of Long Island, he said.
“[There] may be a couple spots on the East End where there’s a better chance of not getting a lot of rain — maybe you touch 70 degrees," Ciemnecki said. "But overall, it’s mainly upper 60s and a mostly cloudy day for tomorrow.
Monday weather will brighten up and temperatures will reach the low 70s with some sun, according to the weather service.
