Nickelodeon to bring back ‘Hey Arnold!,’ ‘Legends of the Hidden Temple’ as TV movies next year

Nickelodeon is getting nostalgic for the ’90s.

Following the boom of revivals and reimaginings of shows from “Full House” to “Gilmore Girls,” the kids’ cable net is developing TV movies based on two of its popular shows from that decade — the Nicktoon “Hey Arnold!,” about a sweet inner-city kid with a football-shaped head who lives with his grandparents, and the Indiana Jones-inspired game show “Legends of the Hidden Temple.”

The two-part “Hey Arnold!” movie, which is being written and executive produced by series creator Craig Bartlett, will focus on Arnold’s efforts to learn more about the whereabouts of his missing parents. The series, which ran from 1996 to 2004, also got the big-screen treatment with 2002’s “Hey Arnold! The Movie.”

“Legends of the Hidden Temple” will follow the exploits of three siblings, who flee from a boring temple tour in a jungle and wind up in a real-life mission filled with obstacles they must complete. Elements from the game show, including Olmec, a talking head who reveals secrets about the temple, and The Steps of Knowledge, the entrance to the temple and launching pad, will be featured.

Both movies are slated to air sometime next year.
