A Bronx man was driving drunk when he struck and seriously injured a bicyclist Sunday in North Woodmere, Nassau County police said.

Justin Aaron Ramsnamy, 19, also violated Leandra’s Law because he had a 15-year-old as a passenger, police said.

Fourth Precinct officers responded to a call for a crash involving a bicyclist on Park Lane and Cedarhurst Street at about 7 p.m., according to a news release.

Ramsnamy, of Woodhull Avenue, hit the bicyclist with his 2008 BMW; the bicyclist, a 55-year-old man, was airlifted to a hospital with a fractured leg and upper arm injuries, police said.

The passenger also was taken to a hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. He was later released from the hospital to his parents, police said.

Officers said Ramsnamy had slurred speech, bloodshot eyes and an odor of alcohol on his breath when he was arrested at the scene. He is charged with second-degree vehicular assault; aggravated driving while intoxicated, a felony under Leandra’s Law; and endangering the welfare of a child.

Under Leandra’s Law, passed in 2009, drivers who are intoxicated or impaired by drugs with a child younger than 16 in the vehicle can be charged with a felony. The law was passed after the death of Leandra Rosado, 11, who was killed Oct. 11, 2009, in a DWI accident after the minivan in which she was a passenger crashed on West Side Highway in Manhattan.

Ramsnamy is scheduled to be arraigned Monday at First District Court in Hempstead.
