Records: Attorney Neil Flynn arrested on grand larceny charge

Attorney Neil P. Flynn, whose 7-year-old daughter died in a wrong-way, drunken-driving parkway crash in 2005, is facing a grand larceny charge.

Flynn, 47, of Lido Beach, pleaded not guilty at a Hempstead court arraignment Wednesday, according to his defense lawyer.

Garden City police charged Flynn with a felony count of third-degree grand larceny, court records show.

“We have pled not guilty and we’re trying to investigate and find out how all this happened,” Flynn’s attorney, Joseph Lee of Long Beach, told Newsday.

Flynn’s daughter, Katie, died as the family was returning home from a wedding and a drunken motorist crashed into their limousine on the Meadowbrook State Parkway, also killing the limo’s driver, Stanley Rabinowitz, 59, of Farmingdale. The drunken driver is serving 18 years to life for murder in the case.

A felony complaint accuses Neil Flynn of charging more than $16,700 on an American Express card for a firm where he no longer works.

The court complaint says Flynn resigned from the company April 28 and did not have permission to make 23 charges on the company credit card between April 26 and May 1 that “were not related or associated with the normal course of business for the firm.”

Police arrested Flynn about 10 p.m. Tuesday, according to the complaint. It says police talked to a complainant and examined a credit card statement and Flynn’s resignation letter during their investigation.

A judge released Flynn on his own recognizance after his arraignment Wednesday.

Garden City personal injury attorney Paul Ajlouny confirmed Wednesday that Flynn had worked for him at his law firm on Old Country Road, and that Flynn had resigned from his position in April. Ajlouny declined to say anything more.

A spokesman for Nassau’s district attorney declined to comment on the case Wednesday.
