An Amazon delivery contractor in Carle Place is relocating out of state, displacing 57 local workers, according to a state layoff notice.

GNCAS Logistics LLC, a direct service partner of the global e-commerce giant, filed a notice with the state last week stating it would be moving its operations and closing shop at the end of September. The workers are not represented by a union, according to a state WARN notice.

Officials with GNCAS did not respond to requests for comment.

Delivery service partners are specialized independent contractors that work with Amazon to deliver packages from local delivery stations. GNCAS operations are based out of Amazon’s DBU3 delivery station at 2 Westbury Ave. in Carle Place.

While separate businesses, Amazon provides DSP owners management training, exclusive deals on business assets, such as branded trucks, and access to third-party providers of employee benefits.

Officials with Amazon said the e-commerce company is working to find jobs for the displaced workers, as the loss of the contractor means increased workloads for remaining contractors at the Carle Place delivery station.

“The owner of GNCAS Logistics notified us of his decision to relocate his business on September 30th for personal reasons,” Branden Baribeau, an Amazon spokesperson, said in a statement.

“We’re actively working to help connect impacted drivers with other delivery service partner companies in the region,” Baribeau said.

Amazon launched its DSP program in 2018 and has to date helped more than 3,500 operators open contracting delivery businesses, which deliver more than 20 million packages daily across the globe, according to the company's website.

WARN, the state Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act, requires that companies with at least 50 full-time employees file a notice of a mass layoff or a closing 90 days in advance.
