Best Yet to open in 2 former Waldbaum's
Bethpage-based Best Yet Market, a family-run chain of grocery stores that puts a major emphasis on fresh produce, deli sales and baked goods, will add a Huntington Station store to its roster in the coming weeks.
The company also said it is now hiring for positions in that location as well as a new store in East Patchogue, which was announced last fall, and its 11 existing locations.
Both of the new stores, which are scheduled to open in late April or early May, will fill Waldbaum's stores left empty following a spate of closings.
The East Patchogue store will be located on Montauk Highway, and the Huntington Station supermarket will open its doors at 711 E. Jericho Tpke.
The two will have a new name: Best Market. Its existing stores, which are named Best Yet, also will be renamed Best Market.
The company traces its roots to founder Ben Raitses, and his small Brooklyn fruit and vegetable store.
Raitses traveled daily to the Bronx Terminal Market to select his produce "at the lowest possible cost for customers," the company's website says.
