Bethpage Federal Credit Union is launching a Long Beach debit card as it opens its first branch in the city today. The card features an image of Ocean Beach Park at sunset.
New York's largest credit union, with $5.6 billion in assets as of March 31, said the 3,900-square-foot branch at 26 W. Park Ave., its 28th, will offer service in English and Spanish and be staffed by six full-time employees and two part-timers.
Bethpage, which partnered with the city in its "Open for Business" ad campaign for the 2013 summer season to call attention to the city's rebound from superstorm Sandy, said it will donate $50 to the City of Long Beach Relief Fund and $50 to the credit union member for each checking account opened with direct deposit at the new branch.
A Bethpage spokeswoman said Long Beach is serving as a test for possible issuance of other community-specific debit cards.
