BJ's Wholesale Clubs on LI reopen after computer problem forced closures

Several BJ’s Wholesale Club locations on Long Island which were closed Thursday due to a computer problem have re-opened, employees said. 

Employees at the BJ's stores in East Setauket and Farmingdale said the closures were due to the chain's computer system being down.

BJ's locations in Deer Park, Farmingdale, Levittown and Westbury re-opened Thursday at 3:00 p.m., while the East Setauket store re-opened at 3:45 p.m., employees said. 

Earlier Thursday an employee at the Deer Park store said all BJ's locations nationwide had closed temporarily. 

BJ's stores in a string of other states, including North Carolina, closed too. 

A series of tweets issued from BJ's official Twitter account in response to consumer questions about the closures read: "Some of our clubs are experiencing a delayed opening due to a technical issue. We do not yet have an ETA on when all clubs will re-open, but feel free to check back in at any time for an update!" 

There are 11 BJ's stores on Long Island, according to the company's website.

Calls and emails for comment from BJ's were not returned. The chain is based in Westborough, Massachusetts.
