Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center expects to open its new, 60,000-square-foot cardiac care facility by Thanksgiving, the health system’s chief executive said.
Richard T. Margulis, president and chief executive at Brookhaven Memorial, said in an interview this week that the Knapp Cardiac Care Center will let Brookhaven expand its cardiac services.
Margulis added that the hospital system plans to hire 50 employees to work at the Knapp Cardiac Care Center in the next 18 months.
The $60 million, three-floor facility is connected to the hospital at 101 Hospital Rd. in Patchogue.
“The building is 98.5 percent done,” Margulis said, adding that the hospital is waiting for final state health and town approvals.
Brookhaven Memorial broke ground on Knapp in July 2014 and completed the building’s exterior last year.
A large donation from the Knapp Swezey Foundation helped pay for the new facility.
