KEY EVENT: Polling places. Two closely watched votes: Citizens go to the polls Tuesday for the midterm elections and the 12-member Federal Reserve on Wednesday votes whether to raise interest rates.
MONDAY: The Institute for Supply Management releases the October services industry report, a look at the financial health of a wide swath of nonmanufacturing businesses such as retail, restaurants and technology. Earnings: Marriott International.
TUESDAY: The number of unfilled U.S. jobs as of Sept. 30 from the Labor Department. Over the past few months, there have been more openings than the number of unemployed people. Earnings: Lake Success investor documents provider Broadridge Financial Solutions, Melville health-products distributor and Long Island’s top public company by revenue Henry Schein, CVS Health, Ralph Lauren.
WEDNESDAY: Earnings from Lake Success payments processor Newtek Business Services, Humana, Michael Kors, Qualcomm.
THURSDAY: Jobless benefits claims for the week ended Nov. 3 from the Labor Department. Earnings: Port Washington drugmaker Aceto, Lake Success natural foods seller Hain Celestial, Garden City kitchenware distributor Lifetime Brands, Farmingdale medical device maker Misonix, Melville power-tools seller P&F Industries, Walt Disney.
FRIDAY: The Labor Department releases October producer prices, an update on inflationary pressures at the wholesalers level. Also, consumer sentiment in early November from the University of Michigan.
