CA marketing its software through Amazon
The Islandia-based business software maker CA Technologies said Monday it has begun selling its backup and security programs on the Amazon Web Services marketplace.
CA offers ARCserve Backup and ARCserve D2D on Amazon Web services on a software-as-a-service monthly subscription basis. It prices ArcServe Backup at $930 per server, and ARCserve D2D at $732 per server.
CA said in a Monday news release that it's making use of AWS marketplace as a sales venue because it's "an online store that makes it easy for customers to find, buy, and immediately start using the software and services that they need to build products and run their businesses."
The AWS marketplace sales channel helps CA save time and effort because Amazon takes care of providing the CA software, and billing for it, CA said.
The Amazon sales program doesn't replace CA's traditional licensing system, but provides an alternative, the company said.
"AWS marketplace offers IT buyers a great way to quickly zero in on the products they need to meet their business technology challenges," Steve Fairbanks, vice president of product management at CA Technologies, said in a statement. "CA Technologies is making it as easy as possible for customers to access a complete solution for protecting data across both conventional and cloud-based environments."
CA stock in early trading Monday was down 31 cents to $26.25, on the high end of its 52-week range of $18.61 to $28. With a market capitalization of $12.73 billion and about 13,400 workers, CA in its last four reported quarters earned $901 million on revenue of $4.75 billion, with diluted earnings per share of $1.85.
