Avison Young, a commercial real estate brokerage based in Toronto, opened the doors of its new office in Melville Thursday in an expansion of the firm's presence in the tri-state area.

The office will be the firm's first on Long Island and third in the tri-state area (the other locations are in New York City and New Jersey). Avison Young chief executive Mark Rose said in a news release that the opening of the Long Island office was a natural progression as the firm expanded in the area.

Ted Stratigos, a former executive with Cushman & Wakefield's Long Island office, will head up Avison Young's Long Island operations. The firm is currently hiring for brokers to staff its Long Island office.
