Melville-based Chyron, a graphics system maker for the TV industry, says it premiered a new product, Social Media Editor, during coverage of last month's Screen Actors Guild awards.
The TNT and TBS networks employed the Chyron system during a couple of hours of programming just before the SAG awards ceremony began Jan. 29. The product is used for pulling and monitoring tweets from any feed and displaying them on-air, Chyron said in a news release Thursday about its involvement with the SAG broadcasts.
Chyron makes products for on-air graphics, video clip systems, channel brand development and graphics management.
"Like all of Chyron's products, the new Social Media Editor allows playout operators to simplify and streamline their approach to on-air productions and events," Bonnie Barclay, chief marketing officer at Chyron, said in the news release.
"Ideal for news, sports, and entertainment markets, this solution helps broadcasters optimize today's increasingly popular Twitter outlet and encourages interaction with viewers from around the globe watching at home," Barclay said.
Chyron has a $30-million market capitalization and more than 110 workers, according to recent government filings. Through midafternoon Friday, on very light trading, its share price was down 7 cents, to $1.85; its 52-week range is $1.37 to $2.94.
