Commerce Plaza Inc., “the children’s business center” based in Levittown, will have a grand re-opening Thursday.

The center describes itself as “an educational hands-on, simulated business community that fosters an understanding of the business world and economics.”

Commerce Plaza works with Long Island school districts by hosting field trips and teaching children basic ideas about business and economics.

Students who attend Commerce Plaza with their classes work at different "businesses”. They get paychecks, make deposits and write checks.

Capital One Bank is a primary sponsor of the re-opening, donating $50,000 to the not-for-profit.

Founded in 1998, the center has hosted more than 27,000 students. A Tuesday news release did not say why the center is having a re-opening. Above, Port Washington students in a Commerce Plaza activity in 2008.
