The Town of Brookhaven has demolished the eighth home in a series of condemned houses Supervisor Edward P. Romaine targeted for demolition.

The vacant Shirley residence at 33 Ashwood Dr. was the subject of numerous complaints after a fire caused extensive damage to the structure.

It was torn down earlier this month under Chapter 73 of the town code, which provides a "fast track" to rid neighborhoods of unsafe structures.

The home was listed on Romaine's Dirty Dozen list of vacant homes to demolish, which was created in September.

"When we demolish an eyesore like this, it immediately improves the quality of life in the neighborhood and helps to restore the property values of all the homes nearby," Romaine said in a statement.

"We will continue to remove these blighted homes," Brookhaven Town Councilman Dan Panico said in a statement. "I have dedicated a great deal of time to raising the quality of life for all residents, and these demolitions are another component in that ongoing effort."

Two Coram residences along with a Medford and Yaphank home are still to be demolished.
