Hasbro, the second-largest U.S. toy maker, reported Monday that its fourth-quarter profit rose 77 percent, helped by sales of boys' toys like Transformers and Nerf.

At No. 1 U.S. toy seller Mattel Inc., which reported on its fourth quarter last month, profit jumped 86 percent as Barbie sales surged and the company cut costs.

Hasbro: Up 77 percent to $165.6 million, or $1.09 per share

Mattel: Up 86 percent to $328.4 million, or 89 cents per share

Hasbro: Up 12 percent to $1.38 billion

Mattel: Up 1 percent to $1.96 billion

— TOP PRODUCTS:

Hasbro: Transformers, Nerf, Play-Doh, Tonka

Mattel: Barbie, Hot Wheels

— OUTLOOK:

Hasbro expects sales and earnings per share to grow this year.
