Henry Schein CEO co-chairs new Muslim-Jewish Advisory Council

Stanley Bergman, chief executive and chairman of Melville health-care products distributor Henry Schein Inc., has been named co-chair of a new national group formed to address anti-Muslim and anti-Jewish bigotry, and champion the rights of religious minorities.

The Muslim-Jewish Advisory Council, announced Monday, was launched at a meeting earlier this month by the American Jewish Committee and the Islamic Society of North America.

Also co-chairing the group is Farooq Kathwari, president and chief executive of Danbury, Connecticut, home furnishings company Ethan Allen Interiors Inc.

Other initial members of the advisory council come from the worlds of business, clergy and politics, including outgoing Rep. Steve Israel (D-Huntington) and former Connecticut senator and vice presidential candidate Joe Lieberman.

“Our two communities share much in common and should find ways, where possible, to work together for the benefit of the entire country,” Bergman said in a statement.

Henry Schein is the largest public company on Long Island by revenue.
