Life Time Fitness Inc. will hire 275 full- and part-time workers for its new Garden City location, company officials said.

The $44 million Life Time Athletic health club, the chain's second on Long Island, is at the site of the former Fortunoff clearance center at 750 Zeckendorf Blvd. and is scheduled to open by the end of the year.

Minnesota-based Life Time opened a Syosset location in 2011. Its family-geared health clubs feature indoor and outdoor swimming pools, a restaurant and cafe, spa, salon and children's recreation area.

Membership fees run from about $150 to $350 per month, officials said.

The company will hold four hiring fairs next month to fill positions in the Kids Academy, member services, aquatics, facility operations and personal-training departments.

Life Time said 70 percent of the positions will be full-time.

Two of the October fairs will be focused on auditioning instructors for positions teaching yoga, cycling and aquatic classes.

Group fitness instructor tryouts will be held Oct. 10 and 11 from noon to 4 p.m. at Life Time Athletic Syosset at 350 Robbins Lane in Syosset.

Hiring fairs for other positions will take place Thursday, Oct. 1 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Oct. 14 from 3 to 7 p.m. at the Garden City Hotel, 45 Seventh St., Garden City.

Last August, Nassau County Industrial Development Agency officials approved the 130,000-square-foot project for a $2 million sales-tax exemption and a 20-year property tax agreement. Life Time later turned down the project benefits.
