Valley Stream hospital to get new $22.3M emergency department
Northwell Health said construction will begin this month on a $22.3 million renovation of the emergency department at its Long Island Jewish Valley Stream hospital.
The emergency department, which treats 40,000 patients annually, will grow from 9,000 to 12,000 square feet and be capable of handling 55,000 annual patient visits.
The new department will have 27 patient beds, including two isolation rooms, two closed observation beds and designated beds for obstetrics/gynecology and bariatric services.
It will also house a dedicated computer tomography scanner and an imaging area.
A private waiting area and a family consultation room will also be part of the renovation.
Separately, Northwell on Monday said it has opened a Vivo Health Pharmacy at Southside Hospital in Bay Shore.
Vivo also operates pharmacies at four other Northwell Health facilities: North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset, Long Island Jewish Medical Center in New Hyde Park, the Center for Advanced Medicine in Lake Success and Zucker Hillside Hospital in Glen Oaks. Northwell also has a Vivo Health Specialty Pharmacy in New Hyde Park.
New Hyde Park-based Northwell Health is the largest private employer in New York with about 66,000 employees.
