Long Island's first Chick-fil-A restaurant will open on Oct. 7 in Port Jefferson Station, a company spokeswoman said Tuesday.
The eatery, at 5184 Nesconset Hwy., will be the Atlanta-based chain's first stand-alone restaurant in New York, joining a smaller restaurant in a New York University eating hall in Manhattan.
Two additional Long Island stores are planned in Commack and Hicksville.
The Port Jefferson Station store will be independently owned by restaurateur Stan Abrahamsen, the company said in a news release. The restaurant will seat about 126 customers and employ about 80 people in full-time and part-time positions. The parking lot will hold 130 vehicles, and the store will be open from 6:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Chick-fil-A restaurants are closed on Sundays.
The store's opening will include contests for customers and a collection of new children's books to be donated to an elementary school in the Comsewogue School District, company officials said.
The Port Jefferson Station location was approved in 2013 by the Brookhaven Town Board over protests by some gay-rights advocates, who expressed concern about comments opposing same-sex marriage made by Chick-fil-A president Dan Cathy. Company officials have said Cathy's comments did not reflect the company's position on gay rights.
