Not all investments are winners, but when it comes to money placed in shares of Long Island-based companies, some stocks offer better returns than others.

We've taken a look at Long Island opening stock prices on May 5, 2014, and compared those to where prices were trading at the opening bell on May 5, 2015.

This list was compiled using a chart of local stocks that run in Newsday's business section. Prices were obtained via Yahoo Finance.

Here's a look at the companies that delivered the best return on investments, and how much the return on a $1,000 investment would be.
